Something stuck down the hole?

In oilfield talk, fishing means getting back something that is stuck or lost in a well. It might be pipe that twisted off, a tool that dropped, or a string that parted.

The lost piece is called the fish. Fishing tools are the tools run down the well to catch it, grip it or free it, so it can come back up.

Until the fish is out, the well usually cannot go back to work. That is why the phone number sits at the top of this page.
